Become a Peer Ally
PLaTO is proud to introduce the DawgsTogether: Peer Ally program. Currently, PLaTO employs 8 Peer Allies.
Pay: Receives course credit for the UNIV 1204 pedagogy course, experiential learning credit (depending on school/college), and $10/hour.
Weekly Commitment: DawgsTogether: Peer Allies can expect to spend approximately 4-5 hours/week or approximately
70 hours over the course of the semester serving as a Peer Ally. This includes a 1
hour beginning of the semester training, 4 hours for ongoing trainings, and a minimum
of 4 hours serving up to 8 students each week.
Peer Ally job requirements include:
- Hold a minimum 3.25 overall GPA
- Have completed at least one semester of classes at UGA
- Have served in, or are currently serving in, a leadership role on campus (Orientation Leader, Dawg Camp Counselor, Ambassador, on executive board in a student organization, etc.)
- Seek two references to speak towards your leadership and mentor experience
To qualify for a Peer Ally position, you must:
- Enroll in and complete UNIV 1204 (a one-hour institutional credit course) within your
first semester of being a Peer Ally (unless you have previously completed UNIV 1204,
FCID 3100, or BIOL 3910)
- Students cannot register for the course prior to being hired as a Peer Ally
- Attend general training at the beginning of each semester
- Complete ongoing trainings with PLaTO Graduate Assistants or DAE faculty
- For each mentee, mentors must:
- Hold one minimum 30-minute in-person meeting a month with each of their mentees (Zoom, lunch, coffee, hike, it's up to you!)
- Electronically connect with their mentee (via Facebook, email, text, chat inside Penji, etc.) once a week. Serve as a role model for incoming students.
- Be knowledgeable about campus programming, workshops, and activities that may be helpful for mentees
