1 Generation at a Time Scholars

ABOUT THE 1 GENERATION AT A TIME SCHOLARS

The 1 Generation At A Time (1 GAAT) Scholars Program is the first scholars program tailored to meet the needs of transfer and/or service-minded students at UGA. Service driven scholars are supported through the collaboration of the Division of Academic Enhancement (DAE) and the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development. Together, they provide leadership enhancement opportunities, educational support, and assist students as they transition into life at UGA.

SELECTION PROCESS

All students who submit their financial aid application, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA via UGA Office of Student Financial Aid), are automatically reviewed for eligibility for the 1 GAAT Scholars Program. The Office of Student Financial Aid will email students who are eligible to become a 1 GAAT Scholar and may request additional documents to verify their aid eligibility.

SUPPORT THE PATH TO SUCCESS

We welcome new 1 GAAT Scholars to campus through a Scholars Success Day in August and a Scholars' Welcome Reception in the early fall semster. Students are invited to enroll in an innovative UNIV 1203 course to assist with the transition into higher education. The scholars are also provided unique leadership enhancement opportunities through the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development. DAE provides scholars with educational support services specific to their needs. Scholars are invited to engage with a faculty/staff mentor on campus to further their academic and leadership experience while at UGA.
