The Intensive English Program at UGA offers programs for different types of students. Please consult the sections below for more information on our different programs to find the one that is right for you!

Please note that all of the Living Expenses and Other Costs listed below are estimates. Rates for May 2023 will likely be adjusted and will be updated on this site as they are available.

 

Full-Time Students

Full-time students take 18 hours of coursework per week. If you are interested in applying to become a full-time student with the IEP, please consult the Application & Program Information page.

Estimated Costs for Each Spring/Fall Session

Duration per Session: 7.5 weeks

Program Cost (to pay to IEP):
One-time Application Fee (non-refundable; due with application) $150
Full-time Tuition (due 2 weeks before the beginning of the session)

ISCF Fee (PDF) (Due every semester in UGA's academic calendar - Spring, Summer, Fall - for students with F-1 or J-1 visa)

Living Expenses and Other Costs (to pay privately):
Textbook cost (Estimate—actual cost could be lower) approx. $250
Medical insurance (Average cost, individual rates vary)  $150-$250
Rent (estimate) cost varies depending on option chosen $1000 - $2000
Food (estimate) cost varies depending on option chosen $500 - $1000
Total living expenses and other costs for one 7.5 week session
$1850 - $3450

The above costs are based on full-time study, which is 18 hours of class per week.

Living expenses: Various options are available for housing, from a small shared apartment off campus to a luxurious hotel room near campus. Food costs range from the cost for purchasing and cooking one’s own food to purchasing the UGA meal plan.

Personal spending money (for entertainment, toiletries, etc.) is NOT included in the above estimates.

 

Part-Time Students

International students, visiting scholars, visiting professionals, or dependents who are already in the United States (on a F-2, J-1, J-2, or other visa) must take part-time courses (less than 18 course hours per week). U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents can choose to take full-time or part-time courses. Conditionally Admitted Graduate Students (July Program)

The UGA Graduate School will accept successful completion of Level 6 in the Intensive English Program as one way to satisfy the English language proficiency requirement for international students for applying to graduate degree programs. Students must pass both their Level 6 courses and the Level 6 exit exams during the July Program to successfully pass the level. For more information, contact us at iep@uga.edu.

The above costs are based on 4 weeks of study, which is  16 hours of class per week + a total of 10 hours of lab.

J-1 International Visiting Scholars

UGA will accept successful completion of Level 3 in the Intensive English Program as one way to satisfy the English language proficiency requirement for visiting scholars. Scholars must complete at least 16 weeks of study in the online course for visiting scholars to successfully pass the level. For more information, contact us at iep@uga.edu.
