Enrollment Recommendation based on Placement Exams

If you have taken the English or Mathematics Placement Exam and did not perform at suggested success thresholds, then you should discuss with your Academic Advisor the best course selections for your academic success. It is strongly recommended that students co/enroll in courses designed to prepare for the academic rigor at the University of Georgia. One of the ways the Division of Academic Enhancement can help is through some of our Supplemental Instruction courses.

UNIV 1105: Introducing English Composition

If you received as score less than 13 on Mechanics or Rhetoric on the English Placement Exam and a score below or equal to 2 on the Writing Sample, then you may be advised to enroll into this course. The purpose of this course is to help students develop skills necessary for success in English Composition I (ENGL1101).

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Develop and understand transferable writing skills necessary for success in ENGL1101 and beyond
  • Compose written products that reflect a critical thought process and focused revising
  • Construct written products demonstrating critical development and creative support for an argument
  • Respond to non-fiction in writing activities
  • Employ formal academic English

Fall 2021 – UNIV1105: Introducing English Composition (CRN 40143)

UNIV 1108: Essentials of Math Modeling

If you received a score below 12 on the Mathematics Placement Exam or a score below 60 on the ALEKS Exam, then you may be advised to enroll into this course. The purpose of this course is to help students develop skills necessary for success in Introduction to Mathematical Modeling (MATH 1101).

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Develop and understand transferable math modeling skills necessary for success in MATH 1101 and beyond
  • Use graphing calculators to solve, graph and analyze functions
  • Understand functions and be able to use and interpret function notation

UNIV 1110: Introduction to Pre-Calculus

If you received a score below 12 on the Mathematics Placement Examor a score below 60 on the ALEKS Exam, then you may be advised to enroll into this course. The purpose of this course is to help students develop skills necessary for success in Precalculus (MATH1113).

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

Co-enroll Courses

Are you struggling through MATH2250 or MATH2260? Are you needing a little more support and guidance through the course? We would like to encourage to you consider adding our co-enroll course (this can be done as a Late Add) to give you that extra support for success in your math class. In the co-enroll course students will participate in recitation sessions, review concepts, and discuss useful learning strategies. Upon successful completion of the co-enroll course, the student will receive 1 elective credit hour.

  • Co-enroll for MATH1113 > UNIV1202: Becoming Active Learners for MATH1113 (CRN 50519)
  • Co-enroll for MATH2250 > UNIV1202: Becoming Active Learners for MATH2250 (CRN 46419)
  • Co-enroll for MATH2260 > UNIV1202: Becoming Active Learners for MATH2260 (CRN 46420)

Co-enroll Deadline: Thursday, September 23rd, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.

Catapult Courses

Think twice before you withdraw! Catapult courses allow students who may be having difficulty in ENGL1101 or MATH 1113/2250/2260 to complete a UNIV section change form and move from that course into a course that will prepare them to succeed in the core course in the future.

Upon successful completion of the Catapult course, the student will receive credit for 3 or 4 elective hours (matching the same credit hours of the initial course they were enrolled in).

  • Catapult for ENGL1101 > UNIV1105: Introducing English Composition (CRN 40143)
  • Catapult for MATH1113 > UNIV1110: Introduction to Pre-Calculus (CRNs 39663 or 39667)
  • Catapult for MATH2250 > UNIV2900: Preparation for MATH2250 (CRN 46424)
  • Catapult for MATH2250 or MATH2260 > UNIV2900: Preparation for MATH2250 or MATH 2260 (CRN 46425)
