Located in historic Milledge Hall, the Division of Academic Enhancement is a unit of the Office of Instruction at the University of Georgia.

Our Mission:

UGA’s Division of Academic Enhancement empowers all students to Learn Differently through innovative courses, programs, services, and student-centered initiatives. The DAE supports students as they transition into higher education and sustains their progress through the University’s unique academic environment.

ACADEMIC COACHING

Students can meet with an Academic Coach to discuss strategies for success and create an individualized learning plan! Our coaches are faculty and staff who have been certified by Inside Track. Whether you're seeking to learn new study strategies or wanting to strengthen your time management skills, any student at UGA can benefit from Academic Coaching. To learn more, click here.

FIRST-GENERATION STUDENT SUPPORT

Students who are the first in their family to attend college are first-generation students. We believe that first-generation students are an incredible part of the UGA community and we want to ensure their success here. To learn more about first-generation student resources, click here.

PLaTO (PEER LEARNING AND TEACHING OTHERS)

DAE supports UGA students through several Peer Education programs including Peer Learning Assistants and Peer Tutoring.

  • Peer Learning Assistants:  DAE partners with units across UGA to support peer learning through the Peer Learning Assistants Program. Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs) facilitate learning by guiding student groups and providing supplementary support inside the classroom. To learn more about Peer Learning Assistants, click here.
  • Peer Tutors:  DAE offers free undergraduate tutoring services through Peer Learning and Teaching Others (PLaTO). All currently enrolled UGA undergrad students can meet with a Peer Tutor who has successfully completed the course being tutored to discuss class content, ask questions, and share study tips and resources. PRESENTATION COLLABORATORY

Students who are seeking support with creating and giving presentations/speeches can get assistance in the Presentation Collaboratory. Staffed by our Communications Consultant, the Presentation Collaboratory provides a safe space for UGA students to learn more about public speaking and giving effective presentations. RURAL STUDENT SUPPORT

Students who live in rural counties across Georgia and attend UGA can access support through our ALL Georgia program. The ALL Georgia program, a collaboration with departments across UGA, seeks to provides services, events, and networking opportunities for all rural students. STUDENT SUCCESS WORKSHOPS

Our Student Success Workshops provide a low stakes space for students to learn and practice success strategies and skills. UGA faculty and staff can request a Student Success Workshop for their classes or student groups they oversee. To learn more about Student Success Workshops, click here.

THRIVE AT GEORGIA

Incoming, first-year students can apply for our Thrive at Georgia program which is a four-week, residential program where students live on campus in Russell Hall, take UGA classes, and build a community of support here in Athens. For more information on Thrive at Georgia, click here

TRIO PROGRAMS

DAE is home to six federally-funded TRIO programs. The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

  • Educational Talent Search (ETS): The ETS program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to it's participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and to complete their post-secondary education.   • McNair Scholars: The TRIO Ronald E. McNair Scholars program prepares selected UGA undergraduate students for graduate study at the doctoral level. Each year, up to 25 McNair Scholars are selected to participate in both academic and summer activities. The goal of the McNair Scholars Program is to increase the number of underrepresented students in doctoral programs. To learn more about McNair Scholars, click here.
  • Student Support Services/STEM-H: The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program at the University of Georgia provides comprehensive services to students who are first-generation, Pell Grant eligible, and/or registered with the Disability Resource Center.   • Upward Bound/Math + Science: Upward Bound is a college preparatory program designed to generate the skills and motivation necessary for success in post-secondary education among high school students who are low income and potential first-generation students. UNIV COURSES

DAE offers a wide variety of courses that aim to equip UGA students to become intentional and independent lifelong learners. All of our courses begin with the prefix "UNIV" and count as elective degree credit. For more information on UNIV courses, click here.
